ABOUT BEING A CATHOLIC & RCIA Catholic Hythe

Message from Parish Priest

Father Fred Alexander SOLT

Thinking about the Catholic faith? Maybe you have never been baptised? Perhaps you were baptised into another Christian group and are now interested in The Catholic Church? Perhaps you are seeking baptism for your child but have been out of touch with the Catholic Church yourself and feel you want to know more? Are you a teenager who has not made your First Communion, or an adult wanting to be Confirmed...?

Perhaps you are a baptised Catholic who feels they missed out on religious instruction and/or has not received the sacrament of First Communion, Confession (Reconciliation) or Confirmation?

The Catholic Hythe "ABC" Course - About Being a Catholic

You are welcome to contact us and discuss any of the above, any time. What might suit you would be to join our programme we call "ABC - About Being a Catholic". This is a series of meetings in small groups we run each year for those wanting to explore The Catholic Faith. You make no obligation by coming along. However, for those who feel ready to join the Church and receive sacraments they have previously missed out on - there is the added opportunity to participate in RCIA.

What is RCIA?

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is a process of study, exploration, and faith formation for non-baptised adults interested in membership in the Catholic Church, as well as previously baptised Christians who wish to be fully initiated into the Catholic Church through the sacraments of Holy Communion and Confirmation.

Whatever your level of interest you are warmly invited to come along to our meetings. Contact us for further information.may god bless you

A little about a famous modern convert

photo of Edith SteinSaint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross - (Edith Stein), Martyr & Co-Patroness of Europe.

Edith Stein was born to a Jewish family at Breslau on October 12, 1891. Through study of philosophy she searched after truth and found it in The Catholic Church. One particularly influential moment in her conversion was reading the autobiography of St Teresa of Avila. In 1922 she was baptised a Catholic and in 1933 she entered the Carmelite Convent of Cologne where she took the name 'Teresa Benedicta of the Cross'. She died in the gas chambers at Auschwitz on August 9, 1942, during the Nazi persecution. Edith Stein was a woman of great intelligence and learning. She was canonized a Saint by Pope John Paul ll in 1988.

"O my God, fill my soul with holy joy, courage and strength to serve You. Enkindle your love in me and then walk with me along the next stretch of road before me. I do not see very far ahead, but when I have arrived where the horizon now closes down, a new prospect will open before me, and I shall meet it with peace." Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross
